Duston Local History Society
The Society is a small friendly group that was inaugurated in 2016. There are nine evening meetings a year and one coach trip to a place of historical interest to members. Although named a local history group, our talks range on a much broader historical outlook than the village itself. Duston is famous for its iron ore and limestone quarries and its brick works, while later on for the Timken works that made parts for military vehicles during the war and the St Crispin’s Hospital that opened in 1876. It holds archive material in the form of books, documents and photographs - and encourages the retention and storage of local archives, which it is currently bringing together into one store.
