Kettering’s Manor House Museum has received a major boost, with North Northamptonshire Council securing a £196,896 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to help shape the museum’s long-term future.
The funding will support a new project focused on protecting the museum’s accredited collection while the Grade II listed building remains closed due to significant structural issues.
A key part of the project will be the appointment of a full-time Collections Manager on a three-year fixed-term contract. The role will oversee the day-to-day care and management of the museum’s collections, while work begins on developing a comprehensive masterplan for the site.
The masterplan will provide a roadmap for the museum’s future, addressing its building, collections, audiences, accessibility and financial sustainability.
Cllr Greg Wilcox, the council’s Executive Member for Communities and Rural Affairs, said: “This grant will help provide a strong foundation for the future – the project will protect heritage assets and rebuild the site, ensuring resilience for many years to come.”
Although the museum remains temporarily closed because of significant structural issues, the grant represents an important step towards safeguarding its collections and planning for the future.
