HERITAGE AWARDS

The Heritage Awards are organised by the Forum, and are a chance to celebrate the achievements of museums and historic houses across the county. The Awards both reward achievement and promote the variety of work undertaken by museums and historic houses during the year. They are also a chance to recognise the hard work of volunteers and staff.

This annual event showcases the heritage of the county and is an opportunity to bring members of the museum, historic house and heritage sector in the county together. Winners of the award ceremony in 2010 went on to win in the regional awards.

Entry to the awards is open to all members of Northamptonshire Museums and Historic Houses Forum irrespective of size or how the organisation is funded. The judges look for well-run projects using the resources available, so all the organisations within the Forum have the same opportunities irrespective of their size.

Awards Celebrate Best of Northamptonshire's Heritage

Northamptonshire Heritage Awards announce eight winners

The Forum's Heritage organisation members from all over Northamptonshire were recognised last Thursday night at the annual Heritage Awards ceremony, which celebrate the county's outstanding heritage through the work of over 40 mainly volunteer run museums, historic houses and other historic organisations.

At the ceremony, held at the wonderful venue of Sywell Aviation Museum and the Cirrus Suite at the Aerodrome on Thursday 10th July, winners included Rushden Museum who won Best Exhibition and Desborough Heritage Centre who won Heritage Site of the year. Kettering Museum and Art Gallery scooped the People's Choice Award, a publicly voted category reflecting the population of Northamptonshire's favourite heritage destination supported by the BBC Radio Northampton.

The awards are organised by a sub-committee of the Forum and the ceremony was hosted by BBC Radio Northampton's John Griff and was also attended by many VIP's including Northamptonshire's new Lord Lieutenant David Laing and the Mayor of Wellingborough Councillor Jim Bass.

The awards were sponsored by The University of Northampton and supported by BBC Radio Northampton and Museum Development East Midlands.
